The Application of Moving Frame in the Calculation of Spiral Bevel Gear’s Principal Curvature

Wang Yuqing,Liang Jian

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 12,   Pages 68-70

Abstract:

the calculation of contacted points´ principal curvature is the key to determine contacted area. Traditionally, the method of determining principal curvature is to make use of the theory of mesh and coordinate transform. However, this method is complex. In this paper, based on the feature of curve surface, moving frame and co-differential are employed to give a sententious, effective algorithm of principal curvature. Then, according to the formulation of contacted area, an application example is given. This algorithm can be used for calculation of principal curvature in all kinds of curve surfaces.

An investigation into the heat transfer characteristics of spiral wall with internal rib in a supercritical

TANG Renhu, YIN Fei, WANG Haijun, CHEN Tingkuan

Frontiers in Energy 2007, Volume 1, Issue 3,   Pages 300-304 doi: 10.1007/s11708-007-0043-5

Abstract: Within the pressure range of 9–28 MPa, mass velocity range of 600–1 200 kg/(m · s), and heat flux range of 200–500 kW/m, experiments were performed to investigate the heat transfer to water in the inclined upward internally ribbed tube with an inclined angle of 19.5 degrees, a maximum outer diameter of 38.1 mm, and a thickness of 7.5 mm. Based on the experiments, it was found that heat transfer enhancement of the internally ribbed tube could postpone departure from nucleate boiling at the sub-critical pressure. However, the heat transfer enhancement decreased near the critical pressure. At supercritical pressure, the temperature difference between the wall and the fluid increased near the pseudo-critical temperature, but the increase of wall temperature was less than that of departure from nucleate boiling at sub-critical pressure. When pressure is closer to the critical pressure, the temperature difference between the wall and the fluid increased greatly near the pseudo-critical temperature. Heat transfer to supercritical water in the inclined upward internally ribbed tube was enhanced or deteriorated near the pseudo-critical temperature with the variety of ratio between the mass velocity and the heat flux. Because the rotational flow of the internal groove reduced the effect of natural convection, the internal wall temperature of internally ribbed tube uniformly distributed along the circumference. The maximum internal wall temperature difference of the tube along the circumference was only 10 degrees when the fluid enthalpy exceeded 2 000 J/g. Considering the effect of acute variety of the fluid property on heat transfer, the correlation of heat transfer coefficient on the top of the internally ribbed tube was provided.

The Innovation-design of Pan-spiral Bevel Gear and Its Secondary Development of Applications

Liang Guiming

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 7,   Pages 70-78

Abstract:

Bevel gears and hypoid gears are more complex transmission equipments. To avoid the change of shaft angles, the zero modification transmission (i.e.x1 + x2 = 0) tooth systems are adopted and had been used about one century .This paper introduces a new tooth system, NON-ZERO modification transmission (x1+ x2≠0), keeping the invariable shaft angle. After secondary development, this innovation may be manufactured by updated machine tool and be applied successfully to engineering vehicle, military production, vertical machine tool, locomotive, speed boat, as well as oil field, coal mine and cement industry. The new-type bevel gears have many advantages, such as multiple capacities, high reliabilities, long lives, small dimension, low noise and high adaptability. They not only may substitute the whole Gleason bevel gear system but also accomplish the function which Gleason can't. Hence the new type bevel gears will open vast vistas for application.

EXPLORING THE RECYCLING OF MANURE FROM URBAN LIVESTOCK FARMS: A CASE STUDY IN ETHIOPIA

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 8, Issue 1,

Abstract:

• Livestock manure was the main organic waste in urban and peri-urban areas.

• Manure production will increase by a factor of 3–10 between 2015–2050.

• Only 13%–38% of excreted N by livestock will be recycled in croplands.

• Intensification of urban livestock production greatly increased N surpluses.

• Reducing population growth and increasing livestock productivity needed.

Urban population growth is driving the expansion of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) in developing countries. UPA is providing nutritious food to residents but the manures produced by UPA livestock farms and other wastes are not properly recycled. This paper explores the effects of four scenarios: (1) a reference scenario (business as usual), (2) increased urbanization, (3) UPA intensification, and (4) improved technology, on food-protein self-sufficiency, manure nitrogen (N) recycling and balances for four different zones in a small city (Jimma) in Ethiopia during the period 2015-2050. An N mass flow model with data from farm surveys, field experiments and literature was used. A field experiment was conducted and N use efficiency and N fertilizer replacement values differed among the five types of composts derived from urban livestock manures and kitchen wastes. The N use efficiency and N fertilizer replacement values were used in the N mass flow model.

Livestock manures were the main organic wastes in urban areas, although only 20 to 40% of animal-sourced food consumed was produced in UPA, and only 14 to 19% of protein intake by residents was animal-based. Scenarios indicate that manure production in UPA will increase 3 to 10 times between 2015 and 2050, depending on urbanization and UPA intensification. Only 13 to 38% of manure N will be recycled in croplands. Farm-gate N balances of UPA livestock farms will increase to>1 t·ha1 in 2050. Doubling livestock productivity and feed protein conversion to animal-sourced food will roughly halve manure N production.

Costs of waste recycling were high and indicate the need for government incentives. Results of these senarios are wake-up calls for all stakeholders and indicate alternative pathways.

A case for assessing

Ian T. RILEY

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 8, Issue 4,   Pages 568-582 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2019270

Abstract: Agroecosystems in water-limited contexts— Mediterranean, semi-arid and arid climatic zones—are too frequently degraded systems that will not provide the needed ecosystem services to ensure a future of sustainable agricultural production. The processes that have created this situation continue and are being accelerated by anthropogenic climate change. Increasing arboreal vegetation in these areas through agroforestry is an important strategy to conserve and improve their agroecosystems. Actinorhizal trees and shrubs in the Casurinaceae have a unique set of adaptations for heat and water stress, and/or infertile to hostile soils. Central Anatolia, Turkey is particularly at risk of increasing aridity and further degradation. Therefore, species of and have been evaluated for their potential use in agroecosystem improvement in semi-arid areas with a focus on Central Anatolia. Based on a semiquantitative environmental tolerance index and reported plant stature, eight species were identified as being of high ( . and . ) to moderate ( . , . , . , . , . and . ) priority for assessment, with none of these species having been adequately evaluated for agroforestry deployment in semi-arid agroecosystems in any context.

Frontiers of Medicine 2016, Volume 10, Issue 1,   Pages 101-103 doi: 10.1007/s11684-016-0437-z

Abstract:

A 43-year-old man with pancytopenia from chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia developed left scrotal pain, fever, and rigors. Physical exam revealed an ulcerating lesion with central necrosis and eschar surrounded by a halo of erythema on the inferior aspect of the left scrotum. The condition indicated an early necrotizing soft tissue infection. The patient was started on broad-spectrum antibiotics and taken to the operating room for a wound debridement. Blood and tissue cultures grew Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which confirmed the diagnosis of ecthyma gangrenosum of the scrotum. The fever resolved, and the wound healed without further progression after wet to dry dressing changes.
